Throughout October, the after school 1 group has been full of little discoveries, curious questions, and moments of excitement. The children have been exploring their environment, sharing their ideas, and finding new things to wonder about. One day, a simple sound experiment turned into an exciting experience that brought everyone together.
The educator covered a bowl with plastic wrap and sprinkled some colourful cake sprinkles on top. When the music started playing through a speaker, the children noticed something interesting. The sprinkles began to move and bounce. To see what else might happen, we added colourful pom-poms and pipe cleaners and watched how they responded to the music.
The children had lots of questions and ideas. Before we started, Dipo asked, “What are we going to do with these materials?” Eshaani suggested adding more sprinkles, while Gavin wanted to hold the speaker. Owen watched the moving sprinkles and asked, “Why are they dancing?” Leon wondered if we could add other things to the experiment. While some children were busy watching the materials move, Destin found another way to enjoy the experience by dancing along to the music.
Together, we explored how sound vibrations could make the materials move. There was so much to talk about, wonder about, and try. The children's questions reminded us that sometimes, one small discovery can lead to many more.
As we look back on October, it is these moments that make our days together so special. Whether asking a question, sharing an idea, watching closely, or dancing to the music, every child found their own way to be part of the experience. We look forward to seeing where their curiosity takes us next.
