Tuff Tray Exploration

Print
Program Name: School-age 1

The children have really enjoyed exploring light reflection with the plastic gems and sorting the colours of the gems in the corresponding coloured eggs on the tuff tray. The children were noticing the light going through the gems and sparkling. The children were fascinated and talking about how the colours became “more shiny” in the light. We discussed that the sun goes through the gems and changes the colours to make them more vibrant. They enjoyed filling the Easter eggs with gems, colour sorting and doing dramatic play activities like (treasure in the ocean, selling diamonds, floating and sinking)

A fun activity that we did on the tuff tray was making mud. We used soil and water to explore in the mud. We had a great time digging through and pretending to bake cakes, use the containers and molds to make creations with the mud. The children were using the mud to hide the gems in and getting their friends to find them.

We can continue to use our tuff tray for the exploration of different materials and to invoke questions of interest that we can explore the answers to.
