Exploring our Five Senses

Print
Program Name: Infant

The infant educators have observed that our infants enjoy sensory activities especially those that involve water play. This month we have been engaging in lots of water play that creates different experiences using the tuff tray and sensory bins. This time, we thought we could incorporate using our five senses. Instead of just putting water toys in the tray, we added flowers and lime slices. The children showed excitement on their faces when scooping the flowers up. Some of the children were seen using spoons or their hands to feel and transfer the flowers to bowls. Some of the bowls had holes which made a lovely sound of trickling water. The smell of the flowers flooded the room, the children then took some of the limes and tried it, the children were unsure at first but kept on trying again. They were seen giggling, unsure of what this sour taste was. Incorporating our five senses gives the children the opportunity to explore the world around them and amplify their creative minds. This activity was such a hit for our infants and is definitely something we will can build on.
