The ants project began as the spring weather arrived. We were going to for more walks and wondered if we would see any ants, where their homes were, and if this weather was too cold for them.

Throughout the project, the children learned about the many parts included in the anatomy of an ant. They learned that different ants have different roles to play within their colony; foraging ants, guard ants, food carrying ants, nurse ants, builder ants, and the queen ant who only lays eggs.

The Preschool 2 group made their own ant farm and made predictions about what food the ants liked best, and experimented with different types of food to see what the ants liked best. Crackers were a big hit with the ants! Children also sculpted ants and their various body parts out of playdough.
