Tell us a bit about yourself and why you chose RisingOaks for yourfamily’s child care needs?
My husband and I have lived in Waterloo for over 20 years and have two wonderful boys, one of which who used to attend the school-age program at RisingOaks Early Learning. We choose to trust RisingOaks due to their strong reputation in the community.

Why did you decide to get involved with RisingOaks' Board?
It has always been important for me to give back to my community. Being on the Board of Directors in a non-profit organization means that I am able to contribute my expertise and influence decisions made in the best interests of our children and their education, which helps shape their future.

What would you say to someone who is contemplating joining the board but is not sure what they can bring to the table or whether they have the right skill set?
I would encourage any RisingOaks parent to get involved and consider joining the Board. It is a supportive environment, the skill set on the Board is diverse and everyone has a voice and a contribution to make. My recommendation would be to connect with one or two Board members and have a conversation to help you make the right decision.

Share a fond memory from your childhood that has stayed with you over the years? How has this and other similar moments influenced your parenting style?
My husband and I are immigrants from Eastern Europe and have recollection of our early education years having a big focus on academics, while being less centered on the child as a whole person. Both of our children were born in Canada. This experience helped influence our parenting style to one that nurtures and celebrates our children’s personalities and aspirations as individuals with a focus on developing grit
and a growth mindset.
