Tell us a bit about yourself and why you chose RisingOaks Early Learning for your family’s child care needs?
I was first introduced to RisingOaks Early Learning when we were expecting our oldest child. I was not familiar with child care options available, and felt that centers were the best fit for us. Through our search we learned about RisingOaks Early Learning and thought it provided a program that was aligned with the values, priorities and programming we wanted for our children. Its high standards and open communication was very much welcomed as our oldest started when pandemic rules were just beginning to change. We trusted their practices and approach to care.
Why did you decide to get involved with RisingOaks’ Board of Directors?
My children have been in RisingOaks since 2021. The experience is absolutely special. The educators are part of our children's life and have supported their growth and development in ways I could not offer; I couldn't imagine their childhood without that experience. This type of experience can only take place with a strong organizational backbone. I joined the 2021 Governance Committee to begin my engagement with the organization, with the goal to support through sharing my own experience in governance within higher education. After multiple years on the Governance Committee + joining the DEIB committee, I feel I am prepared to commit more time and energy as a member of the Board of Directors. I want to be part of supporting and shaping the priorities of the RisingOaks Early Learning organization to continue that growth and critical foundation that produces an exceptional experience.
Share a fond memory from your childhood that has stayed with you over the years? How has this and other similar moments influenced your parenting style?
I remember the fun at the park, and local beaches. I try to spend time outside with my children and remind myself how much those moments with my family felt special.
What is a favourite book that you've enjoyed reading with your child?
"ABC What Can She Be" and "A Is for Awesome!: 23 Iconic Women Who Changed the World" are fun books to read with my daughters. The first book focuses on different careers that exist with illustrations of women doing the jobs. The second book shares some interesting women who have influenced history or have been groundbreaking. This has led to interesting questions from my daughters that have evolved as they have grown.
