Cars and Ramps

Toddler 2

The toddlers in Toddler 2 at RisingOaks Early Learning | St. Brigid, have been very interested in playing with cars and ramps. Lately, the toddlers will build any kind of ramps with the toys and materials in the classroom, whether that’s with big blocks, magnet tiles, or just the climber slide! The toddlers worked together to create a big long ramp outside in the playground. They helped the educators carry the long plank and propped it up on the stump. Then the toddlers made sure each friend had a car that they could push down the ramp, repeating the activity over and over.

The toddlers also enjoy playing with sensory activities such as sand, water, paint, and play dough. Educator Emma decided to combine the two activities the toddlers have been interested in and came up with a messy sensory activity using the ramps, cars, paint and water. Noah, Bennett, Katelyn, and Wesley all helped to hold down a long piece of paper on the plank so we could tape it and it wouldn’t blow away. Once we got the paper taped down, we worked together to pull the hose over to a bucket and fill it with water. Then Emma began pouring paint on the paper. The toddlers couldn’t wait any longer and started to push their cars down the ramp. Noah and Bennett yelled “its purple! They going so fast!” and when the cars went into the bucket full of water, Wesley said “our cars are taking a bath!”

Each of the toddlers took turns at pushing their cars down the ramp, watching them splash into the water. I wonder what else we could use to build a ramp and what other sensory items we could add to our ramps!
