Art Exploration in Preschool 1

Preschool 1

Our Preschool 1 children have been very interested in making different kinds of art. During the last month, the preschoolers have been experimenting with different kinds of painting tools such as blocks, brushes and sponges. We have also used stickers to decorate the art we’ve created. The Preschool 1 team has worked hard to create an inviting art area for all to explore. This has helped children become more open to be creative and access the materials in an easy way. One of the highlights of the month was when educator Alyssa made puffy paint with shaving cream and glitter. The preschoolers had a fun time working with the different materials, talking about how it feels and looks. One child even said “it looks like a melted snowman!”

The preschoolers not only had fun working on these different art experiences but they practiced fine-motor skills, problem-solving, and creative expression while building confidence in their own ideas. These activities support key learning outcomes such as hand–eye coordination, early math and science concepts, like comparing sizes or noticing cause and effect, language development as they describe their creations, and social skills when they share materials or collaborate. Crafting also naturally supports self-regulation: the repetitive motions, sensory engagement, and need for focus help children slow down, manage impulses, and stay present in the moment, giving them a calm, structured way to express feelings and gain control over their bodies and emotions.

We can’t wait to see what other materials we can explore!
