Mom and Dad today our educators decided to make applesauce with us. Did you know that the apples came from a seed that sprouted in the preschool 2 class? Our educators told us that 5 years ago one of the children in that room was watching Kathleen cut apples and noticed the seed. They then asked, “can you grow an apple from a seed?” Kathleen furthered the children’s learning and asked if they wanted to try and grow and apple tree. Well, they took some steps from watching the seed sprout, planting the roots in soil in their classroom, observing it take all the steps to grow into a tree, before planting it in the garden. Can you believe that? As the tree grew over the years everyone watched the apples grow. Now, after 3 years we are the first group to enjoy apples from the tree. We went out to the apple tree some of my friends climb the ladder to grip and pull the apples off the tree, while others were lifted to collect the apples. We were provided with the necessary tools to make a yummy applesauce! We used our large muscles and had to build on coordination with the help of our educators, as we spun the apple on the apple peeler/corer. Then we added them into the crockpot. We were intrigued with the skin strings and the coils of apples that the peeler made. When the crockpot was full, water was poured on, brown sugar, cinnamon and cloves all added and put on top. As the day went on the smells of fall filled our room. Could you smell it when you picked me up? During snack we used our sense of taste and enjoyed each bite, providing us with a tasty treat. What an experience this was. Can you believe all this happened from a tiny seed? Maybe we can try and grow our own apple tree at home.
