Remembrance Day

Program Name: School-age 1

This month, our After School group took part in a special learning experience in recognition of Remembrance Day. We gathered together to talk about what this day means and why people across Canada pause to remember.

The children shared what they already knew—poppies, soldiers, peace, and stories they had heard at school or from their families. During our discussion, the children asked thoughtful questions, showing care and curiosity about those who served in the past and the importance of kindness.

Some of our School Age 1 children were eager to learn more about this honourable day, so we decided to create a collaborative wreath using poppies made by the children. Each child designed their own poppy using individual pieces of egg cartons, paint, and googly eyes. They used their creativity and imagination to bring their poppies to life, and once completed, we arranged them together to form a beautiful wreath.

This experience encouraged reflection, creativity, and meaningful conversations about remembrance and peace
