Program Name: Toddler 1

As the fall season is upon our Toddler 1 children have been exploring with our senses in a fun way. Toddlers seem to be hands on learners so we decided to bring out our sensory bin and fill it with sand, gourds, and scooping utensils like measuring cups and ladles from our dramatic play centre. This was a fun way to explore using our fine motor skills with scooping utensils, and using our sense of touch with the gourds and defining different textures.

We were asking the children open ended questions such as describing what they noticed, felt, and saw when playing with the sand and gourds. Rian noticed colours with the gourds he said “green!” and Amelia said what sounded like “lello”. Once we described some textures we introduced vocabulary like “smooth, hard, soft, and bumpy” after this then the children were really using their hands and feeling the gourds.

Sensory Play is such a fun way to explore and is easy to throw together, it enriches the children’s learning and creativity using their senses. Stay tuned for more sensory play that we will have.
