Save the Eggs!

As Easter was apporaching, Celine set up a provocation with Easter eggs in a bucket with tape across the top for the children to explore a fine motor experience. Beau and Emma were quick to run over and look inside the buckets. They both reached through the tape hole to pick out the eggs. Beau remembered the eggs from yesterday as he was able to open and close them again. Beau held the egg squeezing it together to hear the sound it made. He would put the eggs back through the holes to take them back out. Emma threw the egg back through the holes of the tape then reached back in to take them out. Beau and Emma used their large gross motor skills to push the buckets around the room. Then Beau took this experience to a whole different level! He started to push the toy shelf and was able to move it a couple of inches! Celine then lifted the bottom edges up for the wheels to be out. Beau and Emma shared a social interaction with each other as they pushed the shelf back and forth between the two of them. They both crawled inside the shelf then peeked out as if they were playing peek-a-boo. Melody slowly moved the shelf as Emma laid inside it. This made Emma smile. Beau wanted to try so he got in and laid on the shelf for Melody to give them both a ride! Emma used her nonverbal communication to sign “more” anytime it stopped. Beau was pushing the shelf and gave Emma a ride around. When a group came inside the eggs were set up again for them to try. David used his fine motor skills as he reached into the bucket to take out the eggs. He then used his sense of touch as he felt the texture of the tape and he peeled a piece off. David put the top of the egg into the bottom of the egg. Millie pushed down on the tape then reached in to pick up an egg. She moved to the other bucket and this time carefully placed her hand through the holes of the tape to reach and pull out an egg. Matthias tilted the bucket to be able to reach through the tape to bring the eggs out. To extend on this activity we could bring in other items they could push as well as bags with items inside for them to explore.
