Egg Hunt

Toddler 2

Last month in the Toddler 2 room we brought in some pretend eggs and cartons for the kitchen center, the kids loved playing with them. If any were missing they would go search for them. This month, after Easter we decided to hide coloured eggs around the room to see what the kids would do with them. We started off hiding the eggs around the classroom and let the kids search for them, some kids were very excited to find them! A few kids took them to the kitchen center and put them in a bowl and mixed them with a whisk. However, a lot of our kids opened the eggs up to see if anything was inside. They loved finding the eggs and we hid them a few times.

A few days passed and we set out a sensory bucket with shredded green paper and the eggs. However, this time the eggs had a special surprise in them. Inside the eggs there were various items; flowers, animals, and cars. The kids were so excited when they opened them and found toys inside. After they opened the egg and found the toy they put it back in for another friend to find the treasure! The kids were very excited. We asked them if they did an egg hunt at home and what was inside them, they told us chocolate, yum. The children were able to use their fine and gross motor skills during this activity. They also used their expression to demonstrate their excitement and interact with their friends.

The Toddler 2 kids enjoyed finding the eggs hidden around the classroom and in the sensory bin. We were unsure at first what the children would do with the eggs but when they came in after the long weekend they were talking about eggs and chocolate. They loved finding treasures inside. We even started reading a book about Easter eggs, there are eggs hidden throughout the book and they ask to read the book often. We will continue to keep the eggs out so they can continue to play with them however they want. Maybe we can try hiding other things in the classroom to find too!
