Baking Fun

This month in the infant room we’ve been busy little bakers! We made a couple different things! The first one being bread in a bag, educator Michelle had gotten all the ingredients together in the morning so that once everyone arrived we could get right into it! This activity was great for numeracy skills as we measured and counted out each scoop of each ingredient. We also had to make sure we grabbed the right measuring scoop for each ingredient too. After everything was added into the bag, the infants fostered their gross and fine motor skills and really worked the ingredients in the bag to combine it all into a dough like consistency! It was then taken out of the bag, kneaded together and placed in a dough pan to rise and bake!

Something else we made was apple sauce! One day while looking at the menus, we noticed it was apple sauce for afternoon snack and thought it would be really fun to make our own! We were so careful as we used a kitchen knife to carefully chop up the apples, we than slid them onto a bowl and added a bit of cinnamon before adding them into a pan to bake. After the apple chunks had baked and cooled off, we added them into a blender with a bit of water and blended till we got the consistency we needed!

Both activities were great for language, numeracy, fine and gross motor skills as well as learning turn taking and patience! We definitely plan on doing more baking, maybe even twice a month again since it was so much fun! We might even see if we can get some child safe knifes so we can really get into chopping! We would love to help our cook, Stephanie, with some meal prep!
